The timeline left out the following important event from November 1979. Heavily armed Muslim Wahabi extremists stormed the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, claiming the Saudi royal family was corrupt, decadent and westernized. The siege lasted for two weeks. This event terrified the Saudi ruling classes and they bought their way out by promising the Wahabi leadership whatever they wished to spread their form of terrorism as long as it was outside Saudi borders. The end result plagues the Western world to this day. Billions of dollars have been poured into the Wahabi mosque building program around the world.

This information was obtained from the PBS-produced documentary, “Islam vs. Islamists: Voice from the Muslim Center.” It is also found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Mosque_Seizure
